Real Couples // 10 Day Engagement: Sherri + Erron
/Sherri and Erron had a 10 day engagement. That’s right, only 10 days! They just knew that they were meant to be, and they didn’t want to wait. They were full of laughter and had huge genuine smiles during the whole session. He had her cracking up the entire time, and it was contagious! It was so easy to see how much they love one another.
This is their side of the story...
Sherri: Our story began on a hot Saturday night July 29, 2016. For the first time in over 4 years, I was having a night out with the girls. I was on the dance floor shaking my money maker and enjoying being kid free as I was hanging with my friends, when I was approached by a dark handsome man asking if I wanted to dance. Without a hint of hesitation I said yes. The first few songs were popular dance tunes, but as the DJ turned to his slow set, we stayed out on the dance floor holding each other close and softly talking to one another. Before we knew it, we found ourselves deep in a conversation that actually caused us to stop dancing and just talk. I had never met anyone that could hold such a riveting and intelligent conversation while wearing a cowboy hat and dancing to hip hop music. We took the conversation off the dance floor and before the night was over we had exchanged numbers.
Erron: After my discharge from the Army an old buddy, Terrell, told me of an IT job in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He insisted that I take the job with his company. He was excited that we could be roommates and hang out like we did during the good old days in Kaiserslautern, Germany. That's just what we were doing on that Saturday night in July, when there she was on that dance floor. She was absolutely stunning and radiant. She was breathtaking. The cocky me leans over to Terrell and says "I'm going in;" now honestly I truly felt that there was no way I'll even get more than two words out her before she rejects my offer to dance. To my surprise she said yes. "Here's my one shot to make a good impression. Relax and be yourself," I said quietly as I took her hand and the room seemed to fade as we started to dance.
Sherri: Throughout the rest of the summer we became best of friends and I got the first glimpse into the incredible person he is. It wasn’t until several months later when I finally agreed to go out on a date with him. However, when I look back now, I know that it was on the dance floor on the hot July night when I started falling in love with my future husband.
Erron: I often told Sherri that getting her attention was like trying to catch a slippery fish. With a motorcycle rally approaching in September, this was my best chance to get her to go with me, what woman will turn down a date on a Harley? I said. Now we've tried to connect on a number of previous occasions with no luck but I feel rather optimistic about the bike rally. In my most businesslike tone, I asked if she'd like to accompany me to Bike Blues and BBQ in Fayetteville Arkansas. She said yes!
Sherri: His proposal was definitely something out of the ordinary and completely unexpected. When he finally popped the question I was taken completely off guard. Let me tell you, it was so sweet. We were at home, relaxed, which is perfectly very “us.” I was in the bed, he was on one knee, and he started this riddle game that we like to play. On most days--believe it or not--I always kick his butt. But on this night he came prepared with his rhyme and ring. The timing was incredible. Once again, Erron proved he was “the one.”
Erron continues to show me that I'm loved. He continues to demonstrate his love for me by loving my good qualities, while accepting and embracing the bad. He never makes me feel guilty for having flaws. What I love the most about him is that from the beginning he's always viewed me as his partner, and he is willing to put real effort into the relationship. We are able to communicate with each other, even about tough issues and even if one person is upset with the other. He's very intelligent, a great father, always makes me laugh, and did I mention great looking?
Erron: Sherri has the presence of a queen. She's strong, confident, highly intelligent yet she's soft, open and my confident. Sherri has and continues to be my source of strength through her words of encouragement and willingness to get her hands dirty. She truly is my inspiration and driving force to be a better husband, father — man. And for that she is my queen.
Our wedding was planned in just 10 days. We had an intimate wedding of about 30 of our closest friends and family at the most beautiful quaint Darby Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. We decorated the church with a winter wonderland theme and our reception dinner was held at Movie Lounge.
