Real Couples // Firefighters in Love: K + K
/K & K’s Livermore wedding was a celebration after my very own heart: chock-full of love, funky, and homemade, the most one-of-a-kind event you can imagine. The pair met volunteering at Pride 2008 in the city, and apparently it was magnetic attraction at first sight! K1 did some shady underhanded redistribution of teams to end up working with K2, while K2 “lost” her truck to give them more time to talk. They were on the phone the very next day, and the rest is a story that’s just begun!
The wedding was held in their very own backyard, renovated by K2, K1, their parents and friends, and while I’m not totally sure what it looked like before, I will tell you this, it looks AMAZING now! It was clear that they all put a lot of love into the wedding details: their yellow VW bus given to K2 by K1 as an engagement gift was their getaway car, the desserts were made by K2’s sister, and K1 walked down the aisle to the acoustic version of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” played by a friend’s brother. K1 made the wine barrel centerpieces, her mom grew most of the succulents, and K2’s mom made the “thank you for coming” cards. Everything looked perfect and full of love!
Even the animals joined in on the festivities—chickens, cats, a neighborhood turkey named Oscar, and of course the turtle that I corralled pictures of (because their cat wouldn’t hold still!). Not to be forgotten were the kiddos—so many, many adorable kiddos. One kiddo wasn’t even born yet but decided K & K’s wedding would be the perfect day to make her appearance. Her mom Suzie, a bridesmaid, was whisked away after the first dance!
The food, by Chef Tina Ferguson-Riffe of Smoked Berkeley, was incredible, as were the desserts, made by loving family hands. I loved the matching-yet-different yellow bridesmaids dresses, the yellow and blue bouquets by Chrystal Keller of 2 Friends Events, and Kim’s yellow suspenders—yellow, yellow, yellow, sunshine and happiness!
