Catalyst Wedding Company highlights weddings by and for game-changers. We seek to amplify and empower voices and viewpoints that are usually missing from the Wedding Industrial Complex. We're a community of badass wedding professionals who love all things funky, fresh, diverse, unique, and personality-driven; we convene twice yearly for (un)convention, a collaborative workshop, styled shoot, and dinner party. We're also the publishers of Catalyst Wedding Mag, a resource for couples looking for inspiration and affirmation that doing things differently in wedding-world is not only ok, it's wonderful!

The inspiration for this shoot was drawn from the Zodiac signs, specifically Libra and Capricorn, without being too literal. Libras are known for being harmonious with a light and airy personality, while Capricorns rely on structure and are represented by dark, earthy tones. A scale is the symbol for Libra, so the shoot also plays with the theme of balance, which can be seen through the contrast of the light and dark color palette.

This was meant to be a nontraditional shoot, set in an intimate venue with a backdrop that acted as a setting for the ceremony, as well as the dessert bar. One bride rocked a flowy, ivory jumpsuit, while the other wore a dark lavender tulle skirt with an intricately beaded ivory top. The jewelry was hand-selected to compliment each bride’s sign, with one ring boasting a dark green sapphire and the other, a light blue sapphire.

Mixing metals, especially at a more formal event, is not common, so copper and gold tones were present throughout the tablescape, dessert table, and accessories. The decor and table settings tied the two tones together seamlessly and added depth to the theme. The florals carried the color palette throughout the venue by adding bursts of purple to the tablescape, bouquet, and dessert bar. Crystals, which are often found muted and darkened by dust and dirt, were incorporated as styling pieces for the invitation suite, tablescape, and dessert bar.

Elizabeth spent two years working for a non-profit organization raising awareness about human trafficking and then three years teaching Special Education on the west side of Chicago. It was while Elizabeth was planning her own dream wedding that she realized event design and planning was a career she wanted to pursue. When she is not working, Elizabeth hosts brunches around New York City for Gals That Brunch, enjoys the amazing food and fun activities the city has to offer, and loves traveling with her hubby, Matt.

Kate grew up and went to school in New Hampshire before working for The Walt Disney Company in SoCal for five years. She dreamed of living in New York City, so she packed up her things and headed back to the Northeast. When Kate is not traveling or capturing the memories of her couples, she can be found exploring the city with her fiancée/second shooter, Olivia, mixing cocktails at a Manhattan bar, and experimenting with style through changing hair colors and new tattoos. Kate believes in "equality, rocking a bold lip color any time of day, happy hour, singing alone in the car, and following your heart".
