Wedding Inspiration // "Table For One" Self-Love Styled Shoot
/This shoot is near and dear to my heart! My sweet friend was set to wed this month and called off her wedding just weeks before the big day. I knew this session might be hard for her, but I asked her to slip into her beautiful dress for a reflective session, embracing her decision and her strength as a "Table for One." We styled this session in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains of New Mexico. Native American rugs, baskets, pottery, and accessories were used to display her strength and beauty through her Navajo heritage.
Joselyn Nelson has written a bit about her journey below:
"When planning a wedding, typically you do so without ever thinking you will virtually undo all of it. The endless coordination of vendors and schedules, guests and wedding party — there is an emotional investment in each of these phone calls, emails, and appointments. They all become a part of this process leading to a day when you will pledge your life and love to another person. However, when the wedding is called off just weeks before the big day, and everything comes to a halt, you are left with...what exactly? I was not sure. It was a painful decision to make, but somehow I knew it was the right one for myself and my son.
In the following days and weeks I was overcome with a number of different emotions: disbelief, anger, sadness, disappointment, betrayal, and mostly the feeling of being alone. I felt ashamed that so many friends and family had supported us and contributed to this day. I felt like I had failed — failed myself, my relationship, and our mission to be a complete family.
These feelings and so many questions have run through my head an overwhelming amount of times, it can drive a person mad! However, right now, I have made the decision to take things day by day, week by week — sometimes hour by hour, if I'm being honest. For now, life is waiting to be lived, and I will not let it pass me by or keep me from saying, "Table for one, please."
