Palm Springs + a Motorcycle Engagement Session: Jess + Shane

How did you meet?

We met and hung out on numerous occasions through various acquaintances and friends. After screaming every word together at a Yeah Yeah Yeahs show, we were instantly best friends (this is officially when Shane learned he loved Jess). For years our platonic friendship grew, our friends waiting patiently for our love to coalesce, when finally Jess decided enough was enough and said, "We're getting drinks." That night we made out on a dark dance floor in a basement bar, and we've been inseparable ever since.

What was the motivation for having this couple's session?

There's a rad black & white photograph from the 60s by Frank Horvat of a young couple riding a motorcycle. They look so carefree, their love effortless. It's like they hopped on the bike with no agenda, and wherever the road took them, that's where they needed to be. We were inspired to do our own desert version.

Show your photographer some love. What made you choose them for this shoot?

The minute we saw Jasmine's work, we knew she was the one for us. Her ability to capture the perfect moments and tell a story was paramount. Stylistically, her color and crispness were important to Shane as a designer. Also, Burning Man desert vibes? Yes, please! And of course, she is an absolute spark plug and sunshine of a human being which is very helpful when you're shy in front of the camera.

Jasmine is a sassy, silly California-based photographer, teller of stories, eater of french fries, and head honcho of Let’s Frolic Together. She grew up in Montreal but has called San Diego home for ten years. She’s inspired by adventure, connection, wonder, and dancing her behind off at every wedding. She believes that love is love, that representation matters, and that celebrating diversity of all kinds is incredibly important. Six years as a graphic designer and brand strategist helped her to fall in love with storytelling and out of love with the world of corporate bureaucracy. Now she loves immersing herself in authentically telling stories about incredible magic between inspired people.
